Ladies Night at the Dartmouth Castle
Thursday, July 10, 2008
HammersmithLondon’s second Ladies Night was held on July 10th at The Dartmouth Castle.
The aim of this free event is to provide a networking platform for like-minded business women to share inspiration and ideas in an informal setting and once again we received very positive feedback such as the following message:
‘Just a note to thank you & your team for a great evening last Thursday.. the Pimms went down well.. maybe a little too quickly & the bites were lovely.. Please pass my thanks to Caroline Wolf who has inspired us to re-evaluate our colours & wardrobe! Just hope the sun stays out long enough for us to benefit from the summer shades. Look forward to your next function & thanks again to you & all at HammersmithLondon.’ – M. H
The night featured an image coaching presentation by Caroline Wolf of Crossing Boarders (caroline.wolf@crossing-borders.eu www.crossing-borders.eu ). Caroline’s advise on which styles, shapes and colours compliment one’s personality, body form & lifestyle was invaluable to those who attended.
There was also a prize draw on the evening which was won by Cheryl C from The Walt Disney Company Ltd. Cheryl will receive a one- on-one colour consultation with Caroline Wolf valued at £100 which will included a 90 minute consultation, a 42 colour swatch wallet and day make-up.
Our next Ladies Night will take place in November, and is a free event open to both businesses and individual employees within the BID area. Please check our website for more details closer to the date.

Maternity Leave
The day after the Ladies Club evening, our Marketing Manager Elena Nikiforova who is expecting her first child, started her maternity leave.
We all wish her very good luck!
London in bloom
The judges for the 2008 London in bloom competition have visited the planted areas around the L’Oreal and Bechtel buildings.
They were very impressed with the work of the BID and praised the partnerships between HammersmithLondon and local businesses who provided additional contributions to these planted areas.
The award ceremony will take place on the 19th of September and HammersmithLondon will be notified if we have been successful.
PCSO Results
July update
As shoplifting and stock loss is a major concern for businesses, especially retailers in Hammersmith, HammersmithLondon are spearheading a campaign to tackle this problem and to reduce the effects that stock loss has on the business community. Currently the problem is getting worse and the BID Security Team is being tasked to find ways to attack the different aspects of the problem. One area that prolific shoplifters often exploit is that of crime reporting.
In order for a crime to be investigated, it has to be OFFICIALLY reported to the police. If crimes are not reported in the correct manner, it becomes very difficult for police officers to tackle the situation and to arrest the person responsible. There is a specific protocol for reporting crimes and in many cases, this is not being followed correctly. HammersmithLondon, working in conjunction with the local Safer Neighbourhood Team are working on ways to ensure the correct reporting procedure is followed.
The vast majority of crimes reported to the police require CCTV as evidence to back up the businesses claims against an individual, as such it is important for businesses to make sure that they can provide evidence to back up their claims.
This can be done via the Safetynet Radio System to call CCTV direct, or through the BID Security Team. We are confident that if the correct procedures are followed, then the incidents that are investigated will soon create a general deterrent in the town centre and shoplifting will fall as a result.
PCSO Arrests
June update
Last month, 36 people were stopped and asked them to account for their presence in the area, and 14 criminal intelligence (crimints) were collected for police data. 10 fixed penalty notices were issued for cycling on the footpath as this is a concern for the uses of Lyric Square and Hammersmith. Also recent reports from the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham state that the area has seen an overall reduction in street crime of 9.4% since the BID Security Team were introduced. This is an excellent result for an additional team.
Graffiti Cameras
Graffiti in Hammersmith seems to be on the rise with several graffiti tags appearing at regular intervals around the town centre. Whilst the LBHF are quick to remove it, it appears that the problem needs to be firmly addressed.
It can be notoriously difficult to catch graffiti artists as they often work late at night, away from CCTV and in difficult to reach locations, which adds to the credibility of their tags. Recently the BID has commissioned a project with LBHF CCTV development to tackle the issue and push for actual sentencing.
The BID will be funding the setting up of two new cameras specifically to catch prolific graffiti sprayers. The cameras will be placed at specific locations and will catch the perpetrators in the act, building up a catalogue of incidents against them. This initiative will send out the clear message that graffiti within the BID area will not be tolerated and that sentences will be sought against the people committing the offense.
