Safetynet

Massive upgrade in progress

The Safetynet radio scheme is being massively upgraded and Safetynet radios are currently being distributed to pubs and leisure businesses within the BID area as part of the new Pubwatch scheme. The scheme will help galvanise the business community by enabling the sharing of information and intelligence concerning criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in Hammersmith. Pubs will be able to communicate instantly with each other, CCTV and the BID security team to help protect their premises and staff.

From February onwards, offices and retailers within the BID area will be eligible to join the Safetynet scheme on separate channels designed to reduce the impact of retail theft and commercial crime. The radios will also be able to provide instant communication and response in the event of an emergency situation. Radiolink systems have been proven to reduce crime in town centres around the country and we confidently predict that the new Safetynet scheme, working as part of the BIDs overall crime strategy, will make a huge difference to businesses in Hammersmith. Please contact Matthew John at HammersmithLondon for more details.

Remember the Holocaust
Bring to mind the past, reflect on the present and create a better future!

Holocaust Memorial Day is on Sunday, 27 January, 2008. This is a national day dedicated to the remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust. It is also the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp by the Soviet Union in 1945.

We value a free, tolerant, and democratic society and believe the Holocaust must be remembered in order to create it. Thus we see the Holocaust Memorial Day as a perfect time to bring to mind the past, reflect on the present and create a better future. We hope you see it the same way too!

Clean up of Blacks Road
A concentrated effort to make Hammersmith cleaner

HammersmithLondon, working with the LBHF cleansing department will soon be carrying out a clean up of the Blacks Road area behind King Street. This area has long had a proliferation of ‘grot spots’ and areas in need of attention.  Blacks Road used to be targeted by rough sleepers and street drinkers, however through regular patrols, the BID Security Team have moved many of the homeless into council shelters and accommodation, thereby reducing the impact on the area.

Blacks Road is therefore in need of an overall clean up which will be taking place in the next few weeks. Businesses adjacent to Blacks Road will be contacted and informed about the changes taking place and we expect that the cleansing will help re-invigorate this area of Hammersmith.

Hanging Basket Extension

New streets will be included for the coming of spring

Due to their popularity, HammersmithLondon is extending the amount of hanging baskets in the BID area to help brighten up and energise the town centre during the winter months. Areas such as Hammersmith Road will now be included in the basket scheme and will feature new seasonal displays. The replanting of green areas along Hammersmith Road and the Broadway has also been completed and will be in full bloom in time for the coming of spring.

Disney helps Great Ormond Street raise £10m

A BID role model company in many ways

We are very proud with Disney, one of our top BID companies, as last week they announced plans to help raise £10 million towards the famous central London hospital’s redevelopment.

Legacy and tradition are big components in Disney's philosophy and they continue to show this with their involvement in many noble causes! It is truly an honour to HammersmithLondon to work with and support a company like this.  We give them a big round of applause!

Have you recycled your Christmas Cards?
Go to Tesco, WHSmith or TK Maxx!

We are urging people to help save trees by recycling their Christmas cards! Throughout January, Christmas cards can be taken to special bins at Tesco, WHSmith or TK Maxx stores where they will be collected and recycled on behalf of the Woodland Trust. The cards are then turned into new paper products and all proceeds from the scheme will go towards the charity's work protecting and increasing Britain's woodland.

  • WHSmith - Broadway Shopping Centre, Hammersmith, London and 16 Kings Mall, Kings Street, London

Do a little, Change a lot.
Help make Hammersmith Greener!

There are a lot of things that you can do at work which will help make a big difference to our environment. Many of these ideas save money too so this month why not try to reduce unnecessary paper usage?

Paper can be easily recycled and turned in to new products. Paper recycling schemes are widespread so please use one whenever possible for documents, newspapers, notes and other paper items.

  1. Minimise printing - print only when absolutely necessary
  2. Use e-mail /online services wherever possible
  3. Share hard copies
  4. Use rough paper for internal print jobs where possible
  5. Recycle
